It is with thankfulness, excitement, lots of nostalgia, and joy that I am announcing that 2018 will be my final year working as LULA Hair + Makeup.
As many of you know, the past year has included lots of shifting and evolving for me, both personally and professionally, in an attempt to remain as close to a sense of authenticity and alignment to purpose as possible. While blessing women through hair and makeup has been the heartbeat of LULA from the very beginning, I believe the next season of my life will be beyond the beauty industry. Even so, my love for women and beauty will always run deep - it's part of who I am!
I will still be your neighborhood source for Beauty Counter products, as well as an ever-aspiring source of inspiration for living a life filled with purpose, power, authenticity, strong relationships, grace, seasonal playlists, and self-care. I also hope to continue being a voice and presence among beauty professionals in my area, promoting unity and providing encouragement within our niche industry through regular Summit gatherings. I can't wait to continue this journey with you all, and will keep you updated along the way!
While lulahairandmakeup.com will no longer be viewable, my email will remain open and the LULETTE GAZETTE will continue, though under a different name to reflect this new venture. As always, if you are subscribed but no longer wish to receive these newsletters, you can opt out at any time.
When I started LULA so many years ago, there weren't many individuals in this area doing on-site specific hair and makeup styling for weddings. It has been a pleasure being a frontrunner in this area of a new wave of hair and makeup professionals seeking to craft their own brands and businesses which align deeply with their personal aesthetic and purpose, and to help pioneer an industry that will go above and beyond to create a safe space for women, women who sit in a chair with no makeup on, nothing done to their hair, and a lifetime of experiences which have affected how they see themselves. We get to help them see the beauty in themselves. Our work is sacred, and I will never forget what I have learned while working with LULA over the last ten years.
Along the way, I've received loads of help from entrepreneurs who were ahead of me in their journey. As I was starting, I looked up to Lora Kelley as a source of inspiration and guidance from afar, and appreciated her honest approach to her business and her art. She was the first artist I saw and thought, "I want to do that!" - so thank you for being you, Lora! Photographers, magazine editors, and wedding planners helped me along the way with the most practical tips, encouragement, and referrals. I have met so many amazing people (vendors and clients alike), learned a TON, and have been able to lend a helping hand and guiding voice to those coming up in the industry to pass it on. There's enough work, and we each have something unique to bring to the table.
Having a place to land outside of work was imperative in reminding myself to not take things so seriously. Whenever I felt misunderstood by vendors or clients, had an especially hard day, or just plain ol' felt like someone didn't like me, my husband, family, and friends knew how to listen to me, be a safe space for me, and offer helpful guidance through it all. For that, I'm extremely grateful, and I am encouraged to return that to others as I move forward to a new season.
To every woman (and man!) who have had my brushes touch their face or my irons in their hair, to every vendor I have creatively collaborated with, THANK YOU for being a part of my journey. Y'all are so brave and inspiring to me!
I'm excited to finish out the year with the rest of my booked brides and commercial work - to, as I felt God say to me earlier this year, thoroughly enjoy my Victory Lap and finish strong, indulging in all the parts of this work I've enjoyed the most!
If you're ever in need of an amazing hair and makeup artist for the future, I've created a detailed list of artists I love and trust in this area for you to refer to. While you're over on the Journal, make sure to take a peek at the archive of posts to soak up all my product recommendations, tips and tricks, inspirations, and stories from my life and business over the years, before the website is no longer available to view.
Here's to a job well done, feeling true to yourself, and new new beginnings!
