When I think of summer, I think of vibrant, youthful skin with minimal makeup and kissed by fresh air and a little sun. Over the past few weeks, I've been on a journey to deeper, more gratifying and sustainable health from the inside out, and my skin has benefitted in ways I did not expect - just in time for summer! No-makeup summer healthy glow, here I come!
Drink LOTS of H20
Like more than you think is necessary, and I promise, you'll feel amazing. I'm an out-of-sight, out-of-mind kind of person, so I try to keep a large glass jar at hand throughout the day. For extra incentive and luxurious spa-like vibes, throw in some lemon slices, cucumber slices, or fresh blueberries. Your skin will thank you.
Cut the alcohol
Healthy, hydrated skin feels dewy and bouncy to the touch. Alcohol dehydrates and the first place it shows is your face - redness, puffiness, and dryness. Did you know it takes a full 72 hours for your body to cleanse itself from alcohol? And a full MONTH for your skin to start showing the glowy benefits of a diet without alcohol consumption? Go for it, it's cheaper than a facial!
I know, I'm sorry! If you're a major coffee lover (like me), try to drink a cup only every few days, or do half-caf. Caffeine is a major dehydrator and diuretic, and can affect hormones which control your skin's oil production.
Incorporate a weekly mask into your skincare routine
This is my favorite. You'll notice benefits like smaller pores, smoother skin, and glowyness right away, but after a few weeks, you'll see that these benefits become more long-lasting through the week. I prefer applying a mask after an evening shower, when my skin is clean and my pores are open. I use Boots Botanics Shine Away Iconic Skin Mask and LOVE it.
But no need to double-dip. Make sure you're only applying SPF in one product, your moisturizer or your BB cream/CC cream/Foundation. Doubling up can produce excess oils and have adverse affects on the skin. DO make sure whichever product you choose for your SPF, that it has at LEAST an SPF of 30.
Who's with me?? I'm on a journey to overall health, and I can't wait to see more of how it positively affects my skin!
